After a turbulent end to their ISL 2024–25 campaign, the Kalinga Warriors are back in action and ready to shift gears as they kick off their Kalinga Super Cup 2025. Odisha FC will face Punjab FC in their opening Group Stage clash on April 21, 2025, at the Kalinga Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 PM IST.
This match brings back the growing rivalry between the two teams. In their last four meetings since 2023, Odisha FC have edged ahead with two wins, while Punjab FC have claimed one victory, and one match ended in a draw.
Despite the recent dip in form, Odisha FC head coach Sergio Lobera believes the Kalinga Super Cup offers a much-needed reset and a chance to chase silverware on home turf.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to play the Kalinga Super Cup again at home,” said Lobera in the pre-match press conference. “Last season was very painful for us, losing the final in the last moment. Football and life sometimes give you second opportunities, and we want to take advantage of this. Tomorrow will start of this competition, and we are ready for the challenge.”
Odisha’s Goalkeeper, Amrinder Singh, missed last season’s edition due to national team commitments. This time, he’s ready and eager to contribute. “I’m very happy to be part of the tournament this year and help the team,” Amrinder said. “As coach said, we played two games against Punjab, one we lost and one we drew recently. Everyone is excited for the Kalinga Super Cup and we ready for the challenge.”
Coach Sergio also emphasized that the extended break after the ISL season helped the squad regroup mentally and physically.
“It was disappointing to not reach the playoffs, but this break was positive. It gave us time to recover and prepare in the best way possible for this competition.”

Playing at the Kalinga Stadium also adds an emotional edge for the team, but neither coach nor captain believes it brings pressure—only motivation.
“When you are playing at home in front of our supporters, it’s more motivation, not pressure,” Sergio said. “It should be an advantage for us.”
Amrinder echoed that sentiment: “When you have your home fans in the stand, it’s a plus point. We want to give our 100% and start strong tomorrow.”
The Kalinga Super Cup has historically been a successful tournament for Odisha FC, who were champions in 2023 and finalists last year. The stakes are even higher this time—with a place in Asian competition on the line.
“Winning the Super Cup gave us the chance to compete in Asia,” said Sergio. “Now with the knockout format, every game matters. There’s no room for error. You play to win or you’re out. It’s exciting for the fans and a big challenge for us.”
