Indian actress Mamta Mohandas shows up at Prime Volleyball League in Hyderabad to support Calicut Heroes

7th October, 2025: Acclaimed Indian actress, producer, and playback singer Mamta Mohandas brought her star power to the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia match, passionately cheering for the Calicut Heroes, even as they faced a tough 3-0 straight-sets defeat against the formidable Mumbai Meteors on Monday.

Mamta, known predominantly for her work in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu cinema, confessed that her introduction to the PVL was recent, learning only this year about the Calicut Heroes, the previous year’s champions. “I was just extremely excited to show my support to the team,” she stated, despite the team’s struggles on the court.

The match saw the Mumbai Meteors execute a commanding performance, with set scores of 15-9, 15-8, and 15-12. Although Calicut fought harder in the third set, the Meteors’ strong defense and powerful strikes, led by Player of the Match Amit Gulia, proved overwhelming.

Mamta noted the impact of a recent team shuffle on the Heroes. “We’ve had a shuffle this year,” she explained, acknowledging that while they retained three core players, the mix of new talent meant a critical team-building phase was underway.

Having played a bit of volleyball and basketball in school, she offered an insightful, albeit cautious, assessment: “I think there is a team-building effort that needs to be done that can strengthen the power on court. We are lagging behind in the department.”

Despite the loss, which solidified Mumbai Meteors’ position at the top of the table, Mohandas retained hope for the future. “I have not lost hope with this team for the next season. We have not played too badly in the third set,” she said.

Beyond the court, the versatile celebrity also shared her excitement about an unexpected debut: joining the commentary team. “It’s always been a dream to go to the commentary box and sit there and hold that mic,” Mohandas revealed, marking her first time holding the commentator’s mic rather than being interviewed.

She also reflected on the growing integration of sports and entertainment, noting, “Everything is entertainment. And there’s a lot of business in entertainment now. Even sports have become a business.” She praised this blend for its ability to bring people and cultures together in a ‘unanimous celebration’.

For her cinema fans, Mohandas offered a sneak peek at her upcoming release. She confirmed the completion of a Tamil film with the same production house behind her recent hit ‘Maharaja’. The untitled project, which focuses on a rarely explored sibling story in cinema, is set for a mid-November release, with an official title announcement expected next week.

For now, her focus remains on the court. Her final message to her fans was a rallying cry: “I have always loved you. Go Calicut Heroes! Let’s rock it. Let’s win this thing.”
